Manila to Dallas/Fort Worth: connect in Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, a US gateway or the Gulf?

Last checked

Nonstop or connecting?

  • No nonstop. Philippine Airlines' North America nonstops from Manila are to Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York (JFK), Vancouver and Toronto, with Chicago (O'Hare) starting November 9, 2026 [S1][S2]. We found no PAL Dallas service. United serves Manila only from San Francisco among US mainland cities [S3]. The PAL timetable PDF [S2] couldn't be downloaded directly, so the full PAL list isn't confirmed; check with your airline beyond the press release [S1].
  • Every Manila–DFW trip needs at least one connection.

Hub options

HubHow it worksTypical airlines (verified leg)Notes
Tokyo (HND/NRT)MNL–Tokyo, then Tokyo–DFWJAL flies Tokyo–Manila from both NRT and HND [S4]; JAL DFW–HND daily (JL011/012) [S5]; American DFW–HND daily [S6]Single oneworld-style itinerary (JAL/American) possible. Don't book an NRT↔HND airport change on a tight connection (JAL lists 3h–3h30 MCT between the airports; see the hub page).
Taipei (TPE)MNL–TPE, then TPE–DFWEVA Air flies Taipei–Manila [S7] and DFW–Taipei nonstop since Oct 3, 2025 (BR49/50) [S8]One airline end to end. TPE's Free Half-Day Tour works for 7–24h layovers.
Hong Kong (HKG)MNL–HKG, then HKG–DFWCathay Pacific flies Hong Kong–Manila [S9] and daily HKG–DFW [S10]One airline end to end. Note the eastbound HKG–DFW departure time on your date.
US West CoastMNL–LAX/SFO nonstop, then domestic to DFWPAL MNL–LAX and MNL–SFO [S1][S2]; United MNL–SFO [S3]; PAL partners with American for US onward connections [S1]You clear US immigration and customs at the first US airport and recheck bags.
Chicago (ORD)MNL–ORD nonstop, then ORD–DFWPAL MNL–ORD 3x weekly from Nov 9, 2026 [S1]New route; check the operating days.
Dubai / DohaMNL–Gulf, then Gulf–DFWEmirates MNL–DXB (28/week) [S11] and DFW–DXB daily [S12]; Qatar Airways MNL–DOH [S13] and DOH–DFW [S14]Geographically backward (a big detour west). Only worth it for a planned Gulf stopover.

Which hub to pick and why

  • Fastest, least hassle: a West Coast nonstop (PAL to LAX or SFO, or United to SFO) plus a domestic hop. You do US immigration early and the long flight is nonstop. (Our guidance.)
  • Best one-stop in Asia: Taipei on EVA or Hong Kong on Cathay. Both are one airline, one terminal system, bags checked through. TPE is our pick if you want a free tour on a long layover.
  • Tokyo is great if you're on JAL/American or want a Japan stop; pick an HND–HND connection rather than switching to NRT.
  • Philippine passport holders: Japan allows same-day airside transit, but changing airports or next-day connections need a visa (Japan discontinued transit visas from July 1, 2026; see the hub page). Taiwan's visa-free trial for Philippine passports runs to July 31, 2027, with conditions. Hong Kong allows 14 days visa-free. A US visa is needed for the destination itself. Details are on the hub pages.

Pitfalls

  • Separate tickets (for example, a budget carrier to Tokyo plus a US flight) mean a self-transfer: you may have to enter the country to recheck bags. Avoid this at NRT overnight, since NRT has no airside overnight stay.
  • Manila's terminals aren't connected airside; check which NAIA terminal your first flight leaves from.
  • Philippine travelers need eTravel within 72 hours of departure, and departing Filipinos face the IACAT departure checks and travel tax (see the Manila hub page).
