Bangkok to Islamabad: Thai Airways direct, or connect in the Gulf?
Last checked
Nonstop or connecting?
- Thai Airways sells Bangkok–Islamabad, along with Bangkok–Lahore and Bangkok–Karachi, on its Pakistan route page [S1]. The page doesn't show the schedule, so frequency and whether every flight is nonstop aren't confirmed; check with your airline. News reports say Thai resumed normal Pakistan service in 2025 (not confirmed on an official page; check with your airline).
- PIA: we found no current PIA-operated Bangkok service. PIA's site lists Bangkok among interline/codeshare destinations [S2], which isn't the same as a PIA flight (not confirmed on an official page; check with your airline).
- If Thai's flight fits your dates, it's the obvious choice.
Hub options (if not flying Thai direct)
| Hub | Legs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai (DXB) | Bangkok–Dubai on Emirates (not confirmed on an official page; check with your airline); Emirates Dubai–Islamabad, 10 flights a week [S3] | Big westward detour then back east; much longer total time. |
| Doha (DOH) | Bangkok–Doha on Qatar Airways (not confirmed on an official page; check with your airline); Qatar Airways Doha–Islamabad [S4] | Same detour. |
| Lahore (LHE) | Thai Bangkok–Lahore [S1], then domestic to Islamabad (not confirmed on an official page; check with your airline) | Only if the Islamabad flight doesn't operate on your day. |
Which hub to pick and why
- Thai direct from Bangkok (BKK). Shortest by far. Make sure you're at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), not Don Mueang (DMK).
- Gulf connections only make sense if Thai isn't running on your date or you're combining a Gulf stopover.
Passport notes
- Departing Thailand: US passports get 30 days visa-exempt in Thailand (the 60-day scheme was revoked from Sept 15, 2026). The TDAC arrival card applies (see the US passport cheat sheet).
- Pakistan entry: We haven't confirmed Pakistan's visa rules for US or Philippine passports yet. Check Pakistan's online visa system: https://visa.nadra.gov.pk.
Pitfalls
- Arriving in Bangkok on a separate ticket (for example, from Manila) means entering Thailand, collecting bags and checking in again; allow at least several hours (our guidance).
- Confirm the operating days; Thai's Pakistan schedules have been disrupted before.
