At a glance

  • Four terminals. T1, T2 and T3 are linked airside by Skytrain and travelators. T4 is reached by free shuttle bus. [S1]
  • Jewel is in the public area between T2 and T3, so transit passengers must clear immigration to visit. [S1]
  • Free Singapore Tour (Changi Airport Group with Singapore Airlines) for layovers of 5.5 to 24 hours. [S3]
  • Airside transit hotels in T1, T2 and T3. [S2]

Minimum connection times

  • Not found on an official Changi or airline page. Check with your airline.
  • Our guidance (not an official rule): 60–90 minutes within T1, T2 and T3 on one ticket; 2 hours if T4 is involved; 3+ hours on separate tickets.

Terminals and transfers

  • T1, T2 and T3: the free Skytrain runs 5:00 AM to 2:00 AM in both public and transit areas, and a transfer takes 5–10 minutes by Skytrain or on foot. Transit-area travelators link the terminals 24/7. [S1]
    • Skytrain upgrade notice: from Oct 6, 2026, the Skytrain closes earlier, from midnight to 5:00 AM. In the transit area, a free shuttle links T2 and T3 from midnight to 2:00 AM; other links are by travelator. [S1]
  • To or from T4 airside: a free transit shuttle runs about every 8 minutes from T1 Gate C21, T2 Arrival Immigration Hall F and T3 Arrival Immigration Hall A. Rides take T4 to T1 19 min, T4 to T2 12 min and T4 to T3 12 min. Your bags must be checked through to your final destination to transfer to T4 in the transit area. [S1]
  • Into the public area: Jewel is 5–10 minutes' walk from T2 or T3 via link bridges and connects directly to the T1 Arrival Hall. [S1]

Leaving the airport and the Free Singapore Tour

  • Free Singapore Tour: a complimentary guided bus tour, organized by Changi Airport Group, Singapore Airlines and Sentosa Development Corporation (for the Sentosa tour). [S3]
    • Eligibility: a transit of 5.5 to 24 hours, plus all the documents you need to enter Singapore and your next country. [S3]
    • There are 7 daily bus tours. [S3] Tour names (Heritage, City Sights, Sentosa Discovery and others) come from the tour site [S6]; check the tour site for the current schedule.
    • Book on the tour website or at the tour counters. Report to the tour counter at least 90 minutes before the tour starts, or your seat goes to the waitlist. [S3]
  • Jewel (Rain Vortex, shops and dining) needs an immigration exit. [S1]

Lounges and sleep

  • Changi Transit Hotel (airside): T1, Level 3, near Gate D40, and T3, Level 3, next to the Movie Theatre. Open 24 hours. Rooms have showers, and guests can use the T1 rooftop pool. Don't clear immigration if you're staying here. [S2]
  • Ambassador Transit Hotel (airside): T2, Level 3, Departure Transit Hall South, open 24 hours. Changi Transit Hotel takes over this property from Nov 3, 2026, and bookings for stays from that date go through changitransithotel.com. [S2]
  • YOTELAIR (landside, Jewel Level 4): cabins from 4 hours, open 24 hours. You must clear immigration. [S2]
  • JetQuay Sleeping Suite: in the private CIP terminal. You need a JetQuay service booking and clear private immigration first. [S2]

Layover ideas by length

Editorial suggestions, not official guidance.

  • Under 6 hours: stay airside, with a transit hotel day room. [S2] From 5.5 hours you qualify for the Free Singapore Tour, but the timing is tight with the 90-minute report time. [S3]
  • 6–12 hours: the Free Singapore Tour, or clear immigration and visit Jewel. Both passports can enter Singapore visa-free (see the table). [S1][S3][S4]
  • Overnight: an airside transit hotel in T1, T2 or T3 [S2], or enter and stay at YOTELAIR in Jewel. [S2]

Pitfalls

  1. T4 airside transfers need through-checked bags. [S1]
  2. Skytrain hours are changing (closed midnight to 5:00 AM from Oct 6, 2026). Allow walking time at night. [S1]
  3. Report to the tour counter 90 minutes before the tour. [S3]
  4. Submit the SG Arrival Card before you leave the airport on a layover. [S5]
